Mandate:
Provide a Social, Cultural, Education
and Awareness Network to meet the needs
of Aboriginal people. It is our hope to
build a sense of community for
Aboriginal people in Peel and to
provide a forum where we can meet,
socialize, share, and learn from one
another. One of the common interests of
our members is to increase awareness
about Aboriginal peoples and issues,
and to instil pride in Aboriginal
children of their heritage. We will
also strive to meet the special service
needs of Aboriginal people living in
the region of Peel e.g. housing,
health, and so on.
Vision:
Through a strong and enriching cultural
and social support network, PAN's
vision is to support a high awareness
and education of Aboriginal heritage,
history and current issues that will
continue to develop and strengthen
Aboriginal culture and a sense of
community in Peel Region.
Goals:
- Education and Awareness:
- To increase Education and
Awareness of Aboriginal heritage
and the current rich culture with
a focus on benefits to Aboriginal
children and adults.
- To also increase education and
awareness of Aboriginal heritage,
culture and issues with focus on
benefits to the non-Aboriginal
community including interested
individuals, government bodies,
community agencies and the
private sector.
- Cultural:
- To share, learn and put into
practice Aboriginal cultural
practices and ceremonies in a
respectful manner.
- Social:
- To establish a friendly,
welcoming social setting where
Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal
people can meet and share more
about their positive values in an
manner that values respect.
- Housing:
- To explore the provision of
safe, secure, affordable housing
for Aboriginal people in the
Region of Peel.
